Posted: 02 May 2008 i dont know if anyone lives in this area, but my son has been exploring the scrubland at the back of our house over the last year and manages to spot, slowworms, common lizards. grass snakes, adders, newts frogs and toads on an almost daily basis, having learnt which areas each species lives in he has developed a very sharp eye for spotting things i would never notice. does anyone have any tips for photographing his finds? he is 9 years old. thanks Dave |

Posted: 07 May 2008 Your nine year old has done very well! I never knew Basildon was such a hot bed of herp activity. I would be supervising very closely a child so young photographing Adders! The best tip is stealth. If you put tins down it will attract the reptiles, a they may well prove sleepy when gently turned and easier to photograph. Rick |

Posted: 09 May 2008 Can I just add that St. Rick is referring to turning the tins. Not the reptiles. I think? On a more serious note. He should try not to cast his shadow over them. a/ They won't get startled and b/ the pictures will look better (faster shutter speed = less shake). Good Luck.
